Here is Jimmy Buffett's set from Jazz Fest. Jimmy filled in with an acoustic set for Eddie Vedder who wasn't able to play. They broadcast the complete set except for Hey Good Lookin' and the encore of Last Man Standing. The quality on this is very nice. There is the occasional pop in the audio but those are very few and only really noticeable in between songs.

Enjoy!

Notes:
JEMS master recording. David's stop for the Seattle area in the newly opened Tacoma Dome for the Serious Moonlight tour. This show was the very first show to be booked at the Tacoma Dome when it first opened. The first artist to perform here though goes to The Tubes who opened for Bowie this night. The recording sounds good but the microphones starts to have issues from Fame until the end of the show so the sound quality drops and fluctuates from that point on.

Disk author's note on audio: The 16-bit audio was double-tracked with bass removed from one track using iMovie audio software. This brought the mid-range and treble up to accentuate the singer's vocals.

travelinbeat's notes on the audio:
Location: *STEALTH*
Editing: Tracking and fades were done while the show was laid in Sony Soundforge 10.0a (Build 425) as a wav file. Periodic loud points (nearby claps) were enveloped to allow for more headroom in Normalization (each channel independently to -0.10dB).
Conversion: 24/96 wav's resampled using r8brain v1.9 at "Very High Quality" setting. Newly created 16bit/44.1kHz wavs converted to flac using Trader's Little Helper v.2.7.0 (Build 172)

07 Cracked Actor
08 Diamond Dogs
09 Panic In Detroit
10 Big Brother
11 Time
12 The Jean Genie

Very nice piano on Changes...the songs tend to cut in as you may know from the CD version...this is from an off master tape I was sent the files from.

If this is for you, enjoy.

I will be sharing more shows soon - where possible, less common shows and generally 'raw' transfers for this site (and 'reworked' versions of some of the shows elsewhere too). I am working on another '74 date (a raw transfer) at this moment.

CAN YOU HELP?

For some time I have been trying to track down a high quality stereo recording of the Bowie's Toronto 16 June 1974 afternoon show.

It does exist - because I had tapes of it, but unfortunately lost them.

I know that other fans have the recordings (and not in the noisy CD-R version that was shared) and benefit from torrents, Bowie pictures etc etc that are freely offered up online.

Please share if you have the original quality stereo tape of this show.

Thank you.

18 Rock'n'Roll Suicide
19 John, I'm Only Dancing (cuts out)

Ok this - like the other 74 recording I recently shared - is on the 'murky' side again.

But it's a good listen once you tune your ears to it, damn good performance! :)

Good version of All The Young Dudes, and the person who sent me the tape swears by Big Brother being the best version from 1974 as the 'Bro-Bro-Bro' chant starts at the exact right moment and that it was bodged on all other recorded concerts.

Rock and Roll With Me is sung very delicately, possibly Bowie was pulling out the stops after the huge applause for All The Young Dudes.

There's a lovely piano intro to Space Oddity - a feature of the concerts at this time, just a shame it's not a little clearer. Indeed Chant of The Ever Circling Family does lead on very smoothly - and powerfully from Big Brother. Nice guitar on Time too (with a pretty unique organ ending, too).

Lovely piano on Rock and Roll Suicide as well.

Enjoy.

Thank you.

Description:
David Bowie
Universal Amphitheater, Los Angeles
5th September 1974.

Slight EQ to reduce 'sludginess' of the bass sound.

Stereo MX Desk Silver CD>Audacity>TLH>FLAC

Actions taken :
Bass reduced + Stereo image widened (using mda image plug-in, added into Audacity).

I was never entirely happy with the slightly 'sludgy' sound, high bass level, and lack of a wide stereo 'picture', hence my minor tweaks on my version here.

CD 1
01 Intro
02 1984
03 Rebel Rebel
04 Moonage Daydream
05 Sweet Thing-Candidate-Sweet Thing (Reprise)
06 Changes
07 Suffragette City
08 Alladin Sane
09 All The Young Dudes
10 Cracked Actor
11 Rock n`roll with Me

CD 2
01 Knock On Wood
02 It`s Gonna Be Me
03 Space Oddity
04 Diamond Dogs
05 Big Brother
06 Time
07 The Jean Genie
08 Rock`n`Roll Suicide
09 John I`m Only Dancing

When I first heard a sample of this - a bit of "Time" among other clips, I was very excited.

When it came out I got the Strange Fascination LP set, then the 2CD. I later got the Portrait in Flesh CD version and it seemed no better or worse than the Strange Fascination 2CD, I kept the former.

However much as I liked the gig, high quality as it is, it always seemed a bit 'sludgy' in the mix, could do with less bass, and a bit wider stereo image.

So, finally I've done just that, using Audacity. As Ian Hunter said (at the end of All The Young Dudes) "I've wanted to do this for years!" :)

I feel in this form it's clearer, and you can hear the dynamics of the recording more.

I've done nothing else, as I wanted to keep the changes simple, also I felt I'd like to start the ball rolling should anyone want to try anything more complex.

A comment from Chris who runs the Gouster website :

"My first impressions are that you have done an excellent job with this recording - congratulations! It certainly sounds less "boomy" and has a more open sound which is one that I personally favour. I would certainly recommend that all Bowie fans download this - even if they have the original - as I'm sure they will appreciate your efforts."

This sounds like an official release should - and indeed this was shortlisted for official release a year or two back, but nothing happened.

Enjoy.

NB this is a re-seed of a torrent I put on Dime and MWP, it has now fallen off both.

Thank you.

I was so impressed with the quality upgrade with this show, and there were also some stranded seeds from the last torrent......I figured it would be worthwhile to re-upload the newer version. Any MD users reading this, your MD's will sound impressively better if you can get access to a JB3!; in comparison to previous transfer this one sounds clearer and better; in comparisom to version "a", version "a" still sounds warmer and fuller (did not listen to all of this one)

Note: These shows were very difficult to record due to the volume in the rooms, especially the bass. This recording is the best of the 3 I made on this tour. It is on a par with TFK Pittsburgh 4.10.2002 that I have put in circulation. Also, it was a great concert. Enjoy.
